RENO — There are only two weeks left to experience the power of plants and the importance of forests with a visit to “The Power of Plants: A Forest Journey” exhibit at Washoe County’s Wilbur D. May Center.
“The Power of Plants: A Forest Journey” is on display through Aug. 21.
The exhibit uses interactive museum displays and a walk through the Wilbur May Arboretum to teach about the value of trees in everyday life.
The journey begins inside the May Museum with the Franklin Institute’s “A Forest Journey” exhibit. Interactive displays help visitors understand life in the forest and how valuable trees and forests are to people, animals and other trees. Visitors also learn how they can help to preserve forests and trees for future generations.
Then it’s off to visit some real trees and plants in the county’s Wilbur D. May Arboretum. Guided tours of the gardens are led by arboretum cocents, Rancho San Rafael Botanical Society volunteers and county horticulturist Bill Carlos.
Following the arboretum tour, the journey returns to the May Museum’s permanent exhibit where visitors see how trees and forests benefit animals around the world.
The Wilbur D. May Museum and Arboretum is located in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park at 1595 N. Sierra St. in Reno. The exhibit is open through Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. Guided tours are available at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
