SPARKS –– Following a tip, police have arrested a 17-year-old in North Las Vegas in connection with a Jan. 17 shooting of two teens.

The teens, whose names have not been released, were shot near Breaker Way in Sparks. The shooting cost one boy his eye while the other victim was treated at a local hospital and released the same day.

Police say the incident is gang related.

Police found the alleged shooter by following a trail left at a home on Pembroke Drive in Reno. There, police found the gun used in the attack. That tip led police to a North Las Vegas home where they found the suspect staying with family. He was arrested outside the home without incident, police said.

The suspect is currently being held in the Las Vegas Juvenile Correction Facility on two counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon.

Police say the shooting happened the night of Jan. 17 when two teens, ages 16 and 17, say they were followed by two men in a vehicle.

Sparks police Sgt. John Franz says the teens said a man got out of the vehicle and started firing at them with a shotgun.

Franz says the teens tried to flee on foot but were hit with several rounds from the shotgun. Both were transported to a hospital.

One of the teens suffered multiple facial fractures and a collapsed lung and was listed in critical but stable condition at his admittance to the hospital. Since then, he has agreed to reconstructive surgery but doctors say he has lost his right eye. The other victim was treated and released.

Detectives are working on identifying and locating the driver of the suspect vehicle.

Those with any information regarding this attempted murder are asked to call Secret Witness at 322-4900, Detective Patton at 353-2225 or the Sparks Police Department Detective Division at 353-2225.  Secret witness is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects in this crime.
