RENO, Nev. (AP) — Reno-area residents would see their monthly water bills go up $1.63 a month under a rate increase being considered by the Truckee Meadows Water Authority.

The increase to be discussed Wednesday would raise the average metered rate to $41.05. If approved it would take effect in June.

Customers still paying flat water rates would see a larger average increase of $11.60, from $74.90 to $86.50.

It would be the first rate increase in four years. Officials say it's needed because the utility's operating and maintenance costs have risen $5.7 million over the last four years.
